The city of Sydney has plenty to offer. The massive population of 4 million people boasts hundereds of fine writers who have been leaving their mark all over the place. Sydney's vast City Rail network, which consists of over 160 stations, is where most of the action takes place. Unlike the subways of New York or the London tube, only a small fraction of the tracks are underground. This allows the walls and bridges to exhibit graff work. There is only one problem, and that is the notorious bufffing by the rail authorities. Ever since Sydney bid for the 2000 Olympic games, the colourful pieces along the lines have been covered with a boring ugly brown coat. There is so much buffing going on that it feels like the walls are getting closer to the trains - the paint is so thick. As a result, graff has taken off in the streets, and in the streets is where most of the quality work can be found. |
